The February 2014 Update of the Collaboration and Communications Toolkit recommended for CRP's is a guide for CGIAR Research Programs and Centers which need to find tools to collaborate and communicate. Originally released in 2012, the toolkit has been updated to align with the Consortium IT and KM strategies, the current Shared Services offerings and the adoption of the Open Access policy.

The toolkit is based on scenarios of use for collaboration and communication: the tools recommended for each scenario are either generally accepted in practice or supported by a common licensing scheme.

New tools  and updates have emerged since the original May 2012 version. Web conferencing and audio/video call services feature two new additions: BlueJeans and Google Hangouts (which replaced Talk). Yammer, the internal social networking platform is widely used across the Consortium in its free licensing scheme. The Google Apps on CGXchange maintain their position in the area of team collaboration.

CGIAR Consortium has started the deployment of Microsoft Office 365 (see Q&A) and new trends are expected to emerge in the area of Collaboration later this year, when a new update will be published.
